“A youth free from intoxication” Drugs Prevention Programme

The period from 09th July, 2015 to 08th August was announced as the National Drugs Prevention Month by His Excellency the President. In parallel with it, targeting “Health and Wellbeing” of youth community according to the theme of Health and Wellbeing which includes in the National Youth Policy, a one day workshop to create awareness among contemporary young generation regarding the detriment caused by drugs, alcohols, and cigarettes was held under the patronage of Secretary to the State Ministry of Youth Affairs at 8.30 a.m. of 23rd July 2015 at the main auditorium of the Maharagama – National Youth Services Council.
Dr. Thilanga Samarasinghe, Chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Control Broad, Dr. Sanjeewa Ranaweera, and Dr. Manoj Fernando, Lecturer of the Rajarata University participated as lecturers of this workshop. Here, three awareness lectures were conducted as a lecture on making awareness on opening new avenues for an enthusiastic healthy life, an awareness lecturer on physical, psychological, and economical effect of releasing from drugs ,and the “Wash room” short drama regarding how drugs users caught to derision of others was staged.
Nearly 800 persons including assistant directors, instructors, Entrepreneurship Development Training Officers, and trainees of the institutes functioning under the State Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training participated in for this workshop.
Mr. Nishantha Warnasooriya, Programme Analyst of the United Nations Population Fund, which gave financial contribution for this purpose, participated for representing it.
